Tuesday, June 12, 2007 The ladies day!!! Photo: Joan & Jim Hunter, Georgia. Guide: Fred Matte The Dartmouth River The Dartmouth is divided into 7 sectors: Sectors 1-3-5 (no limit on number of anglers): Sector 1 (approx: 23 pools)is productive mostly in June and early July. Excellent rapid-like holding pools for the early run "silver bullets!" Salmon start jumping the "falls" ( in sector 2 ) roughly around June 25th. Thus late June to September, fish are holding in Sector 3 & 5 ( approx 16 pools). Some pools in these sectors often hold 75 to 200 fish in late season! * note--1 daily pass allows you to fish these 3 sectors. Sector 2: Sector 2 (approx 5 pools)offers fishing for 4 anglers (only)/day. June 1 to June 14th, then from June 15th to September 30th this sector is available for 6 anglers (only)/ day. The most sought for sector on the Dartmouth, Sector 2 will hold fishing in early June through mid-July, then once the water level starts dropping they will attempt leaping up the Falls to the upper sectors. Later in the season, fish will rest for short periods in the day and attempt to leap up the falls in the evening. Sector 4: Sector 4 offers fishing for 2 anglers(only)/day. Breeder ool is a well known pool on the Dartmouth and an excellent resting pool.... usually the first stop (after salmon have jumped the falls in sector 2). By the end of June, you can expect to see "big" fish resting in this sector. Breeder will hold fish July, Ausgust and September. Sector 6: Sector 6 offers fishing for 2 anglers(only)/day. By early July to September more and more fish are lodging in this pool. Easily 100 fish by late July, and excellent dry fly water stretch. Sector 7: Sector 7 offers fishing for 2 anglers(only) /day. Sector 7 is the pool just below the "migratory barrier". Here you will see many large fish ( keep a low profil) not to be seen! Dartmouth; Incredible scenery and great water. The fish count for September of 2002 was 290 grilses and 432 adults (40% and 60% respectively), with an approximate count of 430 fish landed. To add your business: MyBusiness@QuebecSporting.com |
