The following list of flies is meant to provide the Atlantic Salmon angler with a visual reference guide to tying and/or purchasing flies for Atlantic Salmon while fishing the rivers of the Gaspe.
By no means is it intended to be a complete list of all available patterns but instead a reference as to the ‘suggested flies’ for the region that have a proven track record for angling success.
Materials and techniques can vary for the listed flies. Some flies blend synthetics with natural materials. The tier can, obviously, mixed and/or match to their discretion the way they wish the finished fly to appear. In other words, there is probably no wrong way to tie a specific fly.
Some of the listed dressings are salmon standards and some are local favorites. And some are originals that have been developed with specific color schemes in mind and have a history of taking a salmon in the region.
Why one fly works and another is refused from year to year is beyond my comprehension but in the long run these flies will take a salmon at some point in time!
I hope you find the following flies useful in preparation for your trip to the Gaspe!
