Head: red 70 denier Ultra Thread; double whip finish and 3 coats of Cellire varnish

On the completed fly you still see some red on the bend of the hook that did not dissolve completely. It has been brought to my attention that some are having an issue dissolving the red to get the gold hook underneath. All I can say is that I have not had an issue with this process. It takes about 30 minutes with the red hooks in the lacquer thinner and around 1 hour for the blue or green T10-6H hooks to reveal the nickel platting under those colors. I usually treat a complete package at a time and with about 5 minutes left I transfer the hooks in to a fresh bottle of lacquer thinner to complete the process. If it doesn't work for you perhaps change the lacquer thinner brand and try again. As I said.I have been doing this process for a number of years without failure. Some batches of red hooks take longer to dissolve and other are shorter but it averages around 30 minutes.
